This research and exhibition project explores the contemporary relevance of filmmaker Hellmuth Costard’s radical, political, and utopian approaches using materials from his archive within the framework of the “archival turn.”
It investigates his efforts in developing affordable technologies to democratize filmmaking, his critique of film production mechanisms, and his interest in transparency and sustainable energy. Through interviews, analysis, and archival work, the project seeks to re-examine both Costard’s legacy and present artistic practices as forms of collective knowledge production.
